War Memorial Lych Gate, Christ Church, Great Lumley (Great Lumley)
Lych gate of stained oak resting on limestone walls, pitched roof with green Westmorland slates, gates to the front. Forms the northern entrance to the Christ Church churchyard approached from Front Street. Inscription above the entrance gate reads "I am the Resurrection and the Life" whilst two copper plaques adorn the side pillars. The left hand plaque is dedicated to remembrance of the First World War with names of those who died listed in two columns; the right hand plaque dedicated to WW2 with names in a single column. Dedicated in 1954. It is possible that the plaques were once housed within a memorial hall in the village (NEWMP G50.04) that was built in 1923, but this has now been demolished (1-2)
