Oblique view of front of Ebchester War Memorial January 2017

Cross of St. Cuthbert's type at the head of short shaft resting on a tapering pedestal and step. Located to the left of the footpath through the churchyard after passing through the Lych Gate. Cross has a raised central boss and decorative carving on the arms. Front face of shaft depicts St. George slaying the dragon inside a laurel wreath carved in half relief; dedication to the memory of those who gave their lives in the First World War is below this. Names are incised in a single column on the front face of the pedestal. On the rear of the shaft is the inscription "Lest We Forget" with a coat of arms belonging to the designer of the memorial, Rector John George Gibson, carved in half relief. Unveiled 1922, rededicated in 1996 with the addition of names for WW2. (1-2)
