Rough hewn stone cross of Ionic type on north side of B6295 at the junction with the A689 just north of Cowshill. Set in a trapezoidal alcove enclosed by stone walls, open at the front. Memorial shaft and cross elaborately decorated with Celtic design, carved to stand proud. Cross and shaft stand on a pedestal bearing the dedication to the men of the parish who fell in the First World War, names in one column to the right of a carving of a sword and wreath in half relief. At the front of the base is another tablet bearing the dedication and names for 1939-45. Originally unveiled 1922. Has been referred to as the most westerly, the highest (1373 feet) and most isolated memorial in the county, also furthest from the sea (1-2).
