World Wars Memorial, Durham Road, Chilton (Chilton)
Located outside (to north) of Hutton House (current Council Offices) close to the Wheatsheaf Pub on the west side of Durham Road. The memorial is constructed of black marble in three panels with curved tops, highest panel on the left, smallest on the right. Each panel is raised on its own section of a staggered stone plinth beneath and set back from the road and pavement behind iron fencing. The left and right panels carry a large red poppy decoration; the centre panel has a gilded golden wreath bearing the dedication to the men and women of Chilton and Windlestone who gave their lives serving their country in two wars. Money raised by local councillors, monument dedicated in November 2008. Inside the council offices in the public service area is a wall-mounted glass display case containing a Book of Remembrance dedicated to those who served and fell in the First World War and WW2 (NEWMP C107.12) (1).
