Former site of Heathery Burn Cave, Stanhope (Stanhope)
During quarrying at this site between 1859 and 1872 a large hoard of Bronze Age objects were found in a deep cave. The material was recovered over many years and much of the earlier reported finds are untraceable. The hoard included two gold ornaments, many bronze rings, pins, spearheads, swords, axes, armlets and a bucket. Those parts of the hoard, which have survived, are now in the British Museum.
