This is a First World War and WW2 memorial commemorating the war dead of the village 1914-1918, 1939-1945. It is located prominently on the main road (B1281) on a triangular site at the eastern end of Castle Eden Village. It is a tall slender Heworth stone cross of Blomfield-type cross with a Crusader's sword raised in half relief at the crossing. The cross rests on an octagonal stone plinth at the top of two octagonal steps. The whole is set on a wider platform with two steps within a border of red gravel chippings within the roadside triangular green. Four bronze panels are attached to four front faces of the plinth bearing the dedication and names of the fallen from two World Wars. Originally dedicated in 1922 with WW2 additions coming later.
