The church of St Michael in Barningham was first built in the medieval period (1066 to 1540. However, by the 17th century it was in poor condition and was pulled down and replaced in 1816. During the rebuilding a number of fragments of possible Anglo-Saxon (AD410 to 1066) stone crosses were found. The site of the earlier church is to the south of the modern church. This church is a Grade II listed building protected by law.
