Tall polished grey granite obelisk with ornate three-tiered tapered plinth with gadrooned cornice, the whole resting on two steps. Each panel on the four faces of the lower plinth has a single line border, the obelisk itself decorated with a fleur-de-lys style motif close to the pinnacle on each side. Dedication carried on the front face of plinth, erected by officials and workmen of South Pontop Colliery in memory of village comrades who fell in the First World War. Additional quotation carried on the front face of the top step. Unveiled 1920. (1-2).
