Great Isle Farmhouse was once the home of the Lords of Bradbury and the Isle. Surtees (1823, 43-44) gives an outline of the history of the site; it was the home of the medieval family of l'Isle or de Insula, and until the 16th century was always linked to Bradbury. In the early 17th century it passed to the Tempest family, with whom it remained into the 19th century.

Alleged site of a Medieval chapel.

The present buildings probably date to the mid 17th century, though they were altered in the 19th century. The old buildings form a group around a rectangular yard, the farmhouse forming the centre of the south side and turning its back to the yard. This is a Grade II listed building protected by law.
