Site Details

Site of Roman signal station, Broom Hill, Consett (Consett)

This is the approximate site of the foundations of a building. They were described by a historian in a book written in 1823. The building was square and was interpreted by the author as a Roman watch tower (2).

t is impossible to say whether this interpretation was correct or not, as the site is now under modern housing and nothing of this earlier building is visible (1).

D1894
Roman (43 to 410)
