Rowley Chapel, Castle Steads, Rowley, Esh Winning (Esh Winning)

This is the site of a small medieval chapel. It was first mentioned in the second half of the twelfth century. The remains include a small rectangular enclosure surrounding small banks that may be the remains of the chapel walls. This is a Scheduled Ancient Monument protected by law.

Earthwork remains of a Medieval domestic chapel within an enclosure: Rowley Chapel coeval with the Castle {D1840}. There is a small enclosure called "Chapel Garth" in which are the foundations of a chapel about 20 feet by 10 feet. It is mentioned in the time of Bishop Pudsey, Bishop from 1153-1195.
