Chapel Of St Mary Magdalene Of Barmore, Gainford (Gainford)

This may be the site of a medieval chapel. It is recorded that in 1434-5 Robert Perules, hermit of the chapel of St Mary Magdalene lost his chapel and his house in a fire. (1)

A chapel of Mary Magdalene is also mentioned in a chantry survey of 1545-6. A corruption of the name Barmore probably survives in Balmer Hill Quarries at NZ 1718, otherwise no further information. (4)
