St. Mary's Chapel AKA St Marys Chapel, Denton (Denton)
A chapel was first built on this site in the late 12th century by William de Herteburn and Jocelin de Mundeville. In 1794 it was recorded that sculpture and stones inscribed in the Saxon manner were still extant. This chapel was demolished by 1810 and replaced by a later chapel in 1810. That in turn was demolished in 1890 and replaced by the present chapel, which stands a little to the North-West of the earlier chapels. The outline of the old chapel is visible nearby. The remains of 18th and 19th century gravestones were found on this site.
