Almshouses, Staindrop
Terrace of 12 Almshouses built in 1860-1 by the 2nd Duke of Cleveland. One and a half storey, stone built under slate roofs. Gabled dormers breaking eaves level on southern elevation with single storey paired offshoots to rear north elevation. Tall decorative chimneys along length of ridge. Cottage gardens enclosed by stone wall to south. First appear on 1898 OS map. (1)
