Memorial in the form of St. Cuthbert's Cross, constructed of snowcrete (very bright white concrete), set just proud of ground level within an area of brick paving by the north churchyard wall. A raised and sloping plinth between the head of the cross and the wall carries a plaque that simply reads "Lest We Forget". Peterlee is a New Town and therefore never had a conventional war memorial although the town does have a very active British Legion Branch - money was raised by the Town Council for the creation of the memorial and it was dedicated to those who served or were lost in war.
