War Memorial Hall, Front Street, Pelton (Pelton)
The foundation stones of Pelton War Memorial Hall were laid in 1921, the building completed and opened later that same year. It is a large red-brick building with a gable end fronting onto the main road. A large rectangular sandstone plaque is located towards the top of the front gable end inscribed with "Pelton District War Memorial Hall", a lintel above this bearing the initials "R.A.O.B." (Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes). Around the exterior base are a number of sandstone blocks carved with the names of the people who laid them. A plaque to the left of the entrance shows that the hall has been used as a registered office, club and institute. It is documented that there had been an idea to have a memorial on the village green or in the cemetery to commemorate the dead from the First World War. This developed into the idea that a memorial hall could be built to serve that purpose whilst benefiting the R.A.O.B. The hall also contains a WW2 memorial plaque (1-2).
