Prehistoric field system on Barracker Rigg (Otterburn)
This later prehistoric field system on Barracker Rigg lies just west of a Roman period settlement. The field system includes cord rig cultivation and clearance cairns. In Roman period the people who lived in the nearby settlement used these fields to grow their crops and graze their animals. The field system was probably laid out by the later prehistoric ancestors of these people, who lived in a settlement at the same location. This field system is part of a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
