The Bastle, High Rochester (Rochester and Byrness)
At High Rochester there are two buildings that have their origins as bastles. The Bastle has more original fabric than Rose Cottage. It has walls 1.5m thick, a slit window, an original byre door now converted to a window, and a first floor doorway. This is a Grade II Listed Building protected by law.
