Hadrian's Wall between Chesters and the road to Simonburn (Humshaugh; Warden)
The section of Hadrian's Wall between Chesters Roman fort and the road to Simonburn contains a number of different features. There are milecastles and turrets as well as the course of the Military Way Roman road and the vallum. Some of these remains survive as earthworks, such as Turret 29a and the vallum, which is visible throughout most of this section of the Wall. Hadrian's Wall itself is visible in two places as an upstanding feature, in the grounds of Chesters house and near Black Carts. At Black Carts the Wall has been consolidated and is on display to visitors. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
